By May 2012 the little house was too small for the children, so Philip enlarged it — an ordeal of hauling 40 poles, sand, stone and cement by motorbike and raft in driving rain, with spring tides breaking into the structure as he worked. This sets up the crisis the disaster-relief team would answer two months later: the house, built at ground level, kept flooding every new moon.
