Water-and-Ice Factory

A worker crouching beside the newly mounted inverter, charge controller and electrical boards of the factory's power system

The water-and-ice factory is an income-generating business, not a clean-water-access project. Philip began building it in January 2025, starting with the solar power installation, so that the mission could earn its own income — especially in the months outside the tourist season — to pay the Moken young men who work there and to cover the cost of work visas.

Through 2025 the building went up step by step: the ice cold-room, the power system, and the water-bottling rooms. The bottling machines arrived in February 2026.

In June 2026 Wud, Philip's eldest foster son, travelled to Surat Thani to write the water-operator exam. It proved very difficult and he did not pass the first time. He went back in August 2026 and passed, receiving his operator certificate for the factory.

The factory is now waiting on its permits. In September 2026 Philip shared that the permit is taking a very long time to come through.
