Building a Self-Sustaining Future
communitybuildingfundraisingmilestone
In January 2025 Philip began the water-and-ice factory — starting with its solar power installation (helped by a South African visitor, Kobus) — intended to generate income to employ Moken young men and sustain the work beyond tourist season. The same period brought a visa change: technically reclassifying Philip from a front-line volunteer missionary to a "tentmaker," requiring an income-based residency footing while he keeps serving the Moken (and now, more openly, the Thai and Burmese on the island). The capstone of the income-generation thread that began with the 2011 boat idea.
This factory is an income-generating business, not a clean-water-access project.
